We at Revanche 2 strokes/2 strokes of genius wanted an opportunity to speak our mind about our love and passion for the mighty 2 stroke. The most awesome form of kinetic energy is being phased out of our lives and for the most part we are not able to stop it. Some are hearing the call and picking up the mantle to fight and then there are those of us at R2S ( and many others ) who are continuing the ongoing battle to fight the good fight. We want to keep the stroker in the forefront wherever and whenever possible. Especially in light of issues like the United States governing body ( the AMA ) that has decided to not allow 2 strokes of equal size to race against the 4 strokes in the MX/SX pro-nationals, this was even after many involved argued for equality, but their voices fell onto deaf ears.
The manufacturers ( money guys ) who do not produce 2 strokes anymore do not want their bikes embarrassed by factory or non-factory riders on “old technology” 2 strokes. Take heart however, as there is still hope, some factories are still producing the strokers, such as KTM, Maico, Gas Gas, TM and many others. Most of them are being produced in Europe, ( as well as a few other non-European countries ) where some of the motorcycling general public are voicing their opinions ( and are being heard ) that they want to keep the 2 stroke and let them compete, in some cases together with the 4 stroke of equal size or in their own class or classes, this is going over big with the fans.
This is not taking place ( unfortunately ) in road racing. The classes that formerly were dominated by the superior 2 strokes were forced to race against machines of doubled capacity ( up to 990cc ) in the GP500cc class, this issue as well as other changes forced the 500 2 strokes to be at such a huge disadvantage that they were no longer competitive. It is funny though that the only 4 stroke that could match or beat it was a 5 cylinder 4 stroke. Some of us then watched closely ( to get our 2 stroke fill ) the GP250cc class. No one really paid attention to why this class has grown in interest. It is because the 2 stroke faithful jumped on board as a last vestige of hope, but it was seen as another place to kill the 2 stroke by hamstringing it to race against 4 strokes that are not only at a huge advantage but are allowed to be up to 600cc. KTM, Aprilia, Gilera and others fought against this but could not fight the amount of money their opponents had and the decision was made. Now we have only the MotoGP125cc class if you are a roadrace fan. But nothing to watch if you are a 2 stroke MX fan! You do wonder how long this will last when someone realizes the “new” interest in the 125cc class.
This sort of thing is taking place on other fronts as well, the snowmobile industry is seeing their classes being dictated by horsepower not size anymore. What use to be 440cc racing against 440cc or 600cc racing against 600cc is now seeing 600cc 2 strokes racing against 1000cc 4 strokes. This argument is being won because the horsepower is similar. Would this work in say….boxing, where my 250 lb. fighter fights your 150 lb. fighter because they can both lift the same amount of weight, ridiculous is it not?
This is getting out of control, if those that are force-feeding their 4 strokes down the throats of the general public really feel their machines are superior then let them race heads up, of equal size. Let the best design win and then let the public decide. Sadly, alot of people do not know any better and follow the 4 stroke propaganda by buying into the lie, unfortunately this is hurting the sales of the stroker. Some prefer the 4 stroke and this is fine for them, but not for everyone. On this note do you not think it is funny that the 4 stroke has been around for so long, but why were these guys not riding them before they became a fad, I know they will argue that the modern day 4 stroke was not as advanced, etc., etc. The truth here is that they were not allowed the double displacement advantage which makes the 2 stroke superior when the playing field is level.
By the way, for all of you MX fans, I will post some pictures of my motocross bikes with my street bike pictures soon. I also will add ( when it is completed ) some pictures of a 2 stroke bike I am building for the street. Please go to the forum for help with questions, comments, or to leave pictures and or stories, or anything 2 stroke related. You also can leave comments to this blog as i welcome all of your thoughts and opinions about motorcycles, quads, sleds and all things 2 stroke.
